Message from the Principal

Welcome to Taylorsville Elementary School! My name is Dr. Jennifer Dettmer and I am proud to be the principal here at Taylorsville. We are delighted you have taken the time to visit our website and learn more about our school community. Whether you are a current family, a prospective family, or a community member, we hope this overview provides a glimpse into what makes Taylorsville such a special place to learn and grow. At Taylorsville, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where every child is valued, challenged, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential.
Today, Taylorsville serves 534 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 6, representing a rich diversity of cultures and backgrounds. We are proud to serve a vibrant multicultural learning environment where over 30% of our students speak a language other than English as their first language. This diversity strengthens our school community and provides our students with a global perspective as they learn and grow together. As a multi-generational school, we take great pride in the deep roots our families have here, often welcoming the children and grandchildren of former students back into our halls.
Taylorsville is proud to provide a rigorous, student-centered educational experience for every learner. Our academic foundation begins early with a robust Title I Pre-Kindergarten program serving approximately 20 young learners. In our K-6 classrooms, instructional services are provided in inclusive settings with an average teacher-to-pupil ratio of 24:1, ensuring that our educators can meet the unique strengths and needs of every learner while maintaining high expectations for academic growth.
We believe in supporting the whole child by providing a comprehensive range of services that extend beyond the traditional classroom. Serving as a true community hub, Taylorsville offers before and after-school childcare, counseling services, special education, and summer programming. We are also dedicated to supporting our local community through our school food pantry, ensuring our families have access to essential resources. Our commitment to student success is further supported by reliable transportation and food services, ensuring that every student has the resources they need to focus on their education in a safe and orderly environment.
Our school is powered by a dedicated team of 90 full and part-time employees who are committed to continuous improvement. Our staff works collaboratively to ensure that every student is aligned with our achievement goals. From our student-produced morning announcements to our daily classroom interactions, our team strives to ensure that every child feels known, supported, and inspired.
At Taylorsville Elementary, we believe that understanding and responding to the needs of our students and families is essential to achieving excellence. We recognize that readiness looks different for every child, and we are dedicated to helping each student find their unique path to success. We invite you to explore this site, visit our school, and see for yourself why Taylorsville is THE CHOICE to learn, work, and play.
